Mrs. McDonald (an awesome reading, L.A., and Character Education teacher here at Riverton Middle School) has the right idea when it comes to the classroom. According to scientists from Korea, low lighting helps you relax, making it easier to absorb information. So, not only is her room extremely stylish, but it also has tons of brain benefits. Plus, bright colors make everything fun and are proven to cheer you up!
Think about it …. have you ever looked forward to a class with plain walls, a monotone teacher, and bright florescent lights? I didn’t think so. Now, I’m not saying that teachers should go out and raid the craft store, but a few posters wouldn’t hurt. While you’re at it, why not try and put a little feeling into your voice? It’s very reassuring to know our teacher isn’t a robot.
Coming out of 7th grade, my favorite teacher was Ms. Bevis. She really connects with her students and explains it in a way that makes it stick to your brain. Sadly, she retired & moved away to teach at another school. When I entered the 8th grade, I thought for sure that I was going to hate my reading teacher. However, Mrs. McDonald is one of the best teachers I have had in middle school, and I am very grateful to her for being who she is.
More teachers should be like my two favorites; kind, to-the-point, lively, and effective. If everyone tried as hard as them, I feel we could make classes tolerable, maybe even enjoyable, for students! (*GASP*) Without dropping any names, I can tell you I have had more than my fair share of the “mundane” teachers. In fact, this applies to all aspects of life! There are two types of people in this world: the ones who do what is required, and the ones who go above and beyond! Which one are you?
