I’m glad we have an extra class called MTSS (multi-tiered systems of support). You might ask, “What is MTSS?” Well, it is a class where some students can get their homework completed or if you are struggling with a class, then you can have support and get help, and where students can better understand their assignments through added instruction. Also, we get to hang out with friends and visit with one another sometimes. If we didn’t have MTSS, I think kids would struggle with their assignments and get bad grades. However, thanks to teachers working together and thinking of making a class where students can get their homework done and work together to get good grades, students are finding more success! MTSS is a great class, because I can work quietly by myself, or I can work with some of my friends. I can also get some help from my teacher, if I don't understand the assignment or if I need help by the teacher explaining it again.
The second reason MTSS is fantastic is because it gives teachers a little break and gives them time to grade student’s assignment. Also, it gives teacher’s time to help students with assignments if they need extra help so students don't get zapped. Zap is an after school class where you have to finish homework that you forgot to do or you failed the assignment. I think that is the biggest reason that I like MTSS , because it gives kids time to get work done so they don’t get zapped or get a C on the assignment when it should have been an A if they had had time to do it. MTSS gives kid a little breather, so they don’t get stressed out. Students can get their assignment finished without freaking out. Kids still worry about getting zapped and think they will get a C, but teachers can help then with their assignment and tell them what to do so they know how to work their assignment out. Sometimes you just need extra help, but you don’t want to interrupt class to get it.
The third reason MTSS is helpful, is that kids can work together with their assignment if the teachers let them. So, MTSS is really about working together and trying to get assignments finished. Everyone has MTSS, because it’s supposed to help students with Math or Reading, and help students do better in their other classes and get better grades. Also, MTSS is like a calm class. There's not that many students in each class, so everyone can work alone or together silently, instead of working in big groups where
some students let other students do all the work while they just sit there. MTSS is helping our students find more success!
